Where there is no vision, the people perish… Prov. 29:18
Leaders provide vision for the people and I believe God has charged the Black man to lead. However, no man is fit to lead unless he is led by something greater than himself.
And I don’t mean his car, or his mortgage, his Rolex or some amazing sex. No man is fit to lead unless he is led by God.
Fortunately, there are still some Black men who are led by God, not enough, but we’re here. As messed up as we are, we’re here.
But, the problem is far too many of us have abdicated our leadership role and of course our women have attempted to take up the slack. Thank God for our women.
But, ultimately a woman isn’t a man…and a man ain’t supposed to be a woman.
More to the point, a lot of sisters I talk to are tired of acting like men, playing the role of leader men are charged with.
Again, men we have dropped the ball and the people perish. In our defense, we didn’t have a very good original role model.
Adam really blew it. I mean seriously.
So, God tells him don’t eat the apple, okay? Don’t let Eve eat the apple…absolutely no ambiguity.
So, the serpent rolls up on them both. The Word is clear, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
That tells me Adam stood right there while the serpent talked trash to his wife, he watched her do what God forbade them to do–he never stopped her, he never said a word–and he ate too.
So, after they realized they screwed up they tried to duck and hide…incredible.
Then, God essentially says to Adam, what did you do? And you know what Adam’s response was? Indignation…
The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
Wow.
So, here we are the people perish.
I know a lot of brothers who do a lot of good in our community. Cats who mentor and provide strong role models for Black boys. They give their time, their money and most importantly their love. I applaud you men.
But, many of us can do much more. More of us need to be better leaders for our families and specifically our women.
There are a lot of men who believe if they go to work every day, pay bills, come home at a decent hour, don’t beat their wives or girlfriends…hey, what more can you ask?
But, there is more.
Do you provide for your woman emotionally, spiritually and physically? Do you take the time to make love to her way before the time comes for you to ask her for some? Think about it.
The burden is upon us brothers and we have to bear it because the people perish…
